VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

We will continue to build respectful relationships and promote reconciliation through positively engaging with local Ngarrindjeri people. We will ensure this relationship-building process, and active commitment to reconciliation, occurs on the school grounds, in the classrooms, and by engagement with reconciliation events in the wider community. We will respectfully maximise cultural learning opportunities offered by students, parents and community members, and commit to our own personal and professional learning relating to reconciliation.

Our school acknowledges the past and looks toward the future. We are committed to fostering equal and equitable educational opportunities and outcomes between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous students. We are passionate about creating dynamic learning environments, through equipping teachers with effective pedagogies and learning strategies that respectfully embrace the cultural identities and linguistic backgrounds of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Since the inception of our school, the need for all students, staff and community members to be reconciled to Christ has been central to our vision.  2 Corinthians 5:17-18 states: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation. This guides us as we build respectful relationships between First Nations peoples and the wider community.

Our school community consists of people from many backgrounds,  cultures and spiritualities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from across Australia.  We acknowledge that our understandings and aspirations can be diverse, and that fostering culturally safe and responsive opportunities to share  stories, experiences and opinions is part of building respectful relationships. This needs to be done in a loving and compassionate way
