Reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for the benefit of all Australians. Teaching and learning about the concept, history and progress of reconciliation can help to provide students, children and staff with an understanding of how your school or early learning service's RAP fits into the broader story of reconciliation in Australia.
While National Reconciliation Week is a great opportunity to teach about reconciliation, it is important to integrate reconciliation into regular teaching and learning programs throughout the whole year. Reconciliation is also an important topic for professional learning, aligning with Focus Area 2.4 of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and with the National Quality Standard.
