Throughout the year, there are a number of dedicated days and weeks that are significant for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and reconciliation.
These days are a great anchor point for teaching students and children about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contributions, as well as contemporary issues. In this way, they provide an opportunity to engage with the Early Years Learning Framework or the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures cross-curriculum priority.
Incorporating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into teaching about other national days, such as 26 January (Australia Day) and Anzac Day, will provide a more nuanced understanding of the significance of these days.
