VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Our vision for reconciliation at St Lukes Uniting Kindergarten Highton is for all people to stand together in social justice, fostering cultural safety and strong, positive relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous people. We are committed to building meaningful relationships with the local First Nations community and supporting children and their families to develop knowledge of, and respect for, the Wadawurrung people on whose Land St Lukes stands. We aim to create a welcoming environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples feel safe, comfortable and valued, and where First Nations children are respected, heard and provided with high-quality learning experiences. We continue to create opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and employees to honour and maintain cultural practices, and we deeply value the perspectives they choose to share with us. We believe that culture is central to a childs identity and sense of belonging, and forms the foundation for success in lifelong learning. We aspire to inspire children, families and the broader community to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing, being and doing. The children at St Lukes Uniting Kindergarten share a vision for reconciliation where respect and acknowledgement for the Land on which we learn and play is shown each and every day. We are committed to deepening childrens understanding of caring for Country and supporting them to live more sustainably in their daily lives. We strive to work alongside local Wadawurrung groups as we continue to grow our knowledge and share these learnings with children and families.
