Reconciliation is an integral component of all Australians moving forward in our journey of building a uniquely Australian identity, based on a shared history and acknowledgement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and voices. This requires serious reflection, understanding the social, cultural and historical heritage that underpins modern Australia, and reaching out to build reciprocal relationships based on understanding and respect.
At Reynolds Street Community Preschool, we aim to achieve reconciliation through learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, languages, histories, and continuing contributions, as we build relationships with the local Aboriginal Community. We are committed to developing further understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and respectfully learning about First Peoples’ ways of being, knowing and doing, in order to create a responsive and culturally safe environment for educators, children and families, where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are embedded across practices and programs.
Respecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ connections to Country and acknowledging our histories will help us foster healing as we move towards a future where all children and educators are active and informed members of the community who understand, acknowledge and celebrate the diversity and richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures, living in harmony with the traditional Custodians of the Lands on which we live, learn, walk and work
