Since 1895, St Michaels Grammar School has espoused the values of Dignity, Respect, Care and Compassion. These values guide our School community today, shaping our decisions, actions and expectations. Our vision for reconciliation is a school where understanding leads our commitment to First Nations communities, particularly the Boonwurrung people. We will forge meaningful relationships with First Nations groups, critically reviewing our actions to ensure genuine engagement. We acknowledge our responsibility in educating our community. We commit to supporting our educators to actively facilitate learning about First Nations histories, recognising that the sharing of First Nations cultures, languages and lived experiences must be led by First Nations voices. Our spaces will be safe, respectful environments where First Nations people feel valued. We will educate our students on the difference between equality and equity - true equity means recognizing and addressing historical, systemic disadvantages. We strive to be a courageous voice for reconciliation, standing in solidarity with First Nations peoples in pursuit of justice and respect. Our engagement with First Nations communities must provide opportunities to acknowledge connection between land, people and culture, and be meaningfully integrated into our organisational identity. We accept our responsibility to work with dedication, committing resources to make tangible steps towards our vision. We accept and embrace the truth of our collective past and present, building a future that honours the wisdom and contributions of First Nations peoples. We will provide our community with visible reminders of our commitment to reconciliation through First Nations artwork, storytelling, listening and creating, to ensure First Nations voices are heard and understood, past injustices acknowledged and pathways forward created. Together, we walk towards a reconciled future, where respect and truth define our actions.
