At Hayes Park Public School, our vision for reconciliation is to nurture a strong respect, recognition, and celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures.We strive to empower all students to deepen their understanding of reconciliation through respectful dialogue, cultural experiences, and authentic engagement with the stories and wisdom of First Nations peoples. The launch of our new preschool in 2026 offers an important opportunity to introduce reconciliation and cultural respect at the earliest stages of each childs education. By doing so, we commit to embedding these values consistently throughout their time at Hayes Park Public School. A key focus of our approach is uplifting student voices by offering opportunities for cultural exchange, leadership development, and community connection. We will introduce mentoring programs that connect older and younger students, encouraging confidence, cultural pride, and a strong sense of belonging across our school. These programs will support students to share their ideas about reconciliation and take part in initiatives that strengthen their understanding and respect for First Nations cultures. Students will also be encouraged to build connections with the Dharawal community and local organisations, providing hands-on opportunities to learn from lived experiences and contribute meaningfully to community initiatives.  Continuous cultural learning for all staff is vital. Through ongoing professional development focused on Dharawal language, customs, histories, and contemporary experiences, our staff will continue to build their capacity and confidence to support and facilitate cultural programs. Our partnerships with First Nations Elders, community members, and organisations are fundamental to achieving our reconciliation goals. By working alongside these key partners, we strengthen our shared commitment to unity, respect, and cultural understanding across our school community.
