VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

St James Catholic College acknowledges the Melukerdee Land on which our learning community stands. Once a gathering place for Aboriginal people, this Land continues to be a place for cultural celebrations.  We respectfully honour our Elders, past and present.

We recognise that Melukerdee Ancestors cared for this Country, for tens of thousands of years, including through two ice ages and that sovereignty was never ceded. We recognise the resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We acknowledge and are committed to telling the truth of True history of Australia, as a way of building relationships with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and healing Country.

St James Catholic College promotes inclusive and respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous people, with meaningful two-way dialogue and partnerships which foster and develop respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and culture. We seek practical and meaningful reconciliation initiatives through respectfully embedding First Nations perspectives in all that we do and to build on our strong foundations.

At St James, we strive to inspire all students to be brave in taking action and giving meaningful opportunities to First Nations peoples to have a voice.

In the words of St Mary Mackillop, we hope to Never see a need without doing something about it.
