At Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School, we are a community of people loved unconditionally by God, who impels us to deepen our relationships with all people.

Our vision for reconciliation is to move forward together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and the wider community, on a journey where it is imperative that we work together towards a country that is reconciled, equal and equitable. In the spirit of reconciliation, we will focus on restoring relationships with the First Peoples of Australia and valuing their cultures. Through our journey we will identify and address the inequalities and inequities that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people face and acknowledging this and taking action against social injustice.

We recognise and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' deep ongoing connections with and custodianship of the Land. We value and honour First Nations peoples’ resilience and strength and their continuing contributions to maintaining a sustainable and flourishing environment. We have committed to respectfully embed a curriculum grounded in truth-telling and develop practical and meaningful reconciliation initiatives around the school and actively listen to Tasmanian Aboriginal voices throughout our entire community.

We recognise that access to and participation in a liberating education system are fundamental to closing the gap in equal and equitable educational outcomes between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians. As a Catholic School for primary students in the Josephite tradition, we embrace lifelong learning that leads towards a future of true reconciliation and honour faith, justice, and inclusive practices. We believe in developing and maintaining a foundation of mutual respect, hope, compassion, and justice between people of diverse cultures that are thriving in our community and country.

We recognise the First Nations peoples of Australia as the Original Custodians of the Land upon which we learn and teach. We will continue to seek opportunities to engage with and learn about the continuing cultures of First Nations Peoples.
