At Rossbourne School, we envision a future where reconciliation is not just a goal but a lived reality. Our vision is for an inclusive inter-cultural relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous Australians based on common respect and recognition of the enduring value of First Peoples’ knowledges, histories and cultures. We strive for every member of our community to be empowered to understand, respect, and celebrate the rich cultural heritage and enduring contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within our local and broader communities. As a neurodivergent school, we celebrate diversity and recognise the importance of creating an inclusive environment where every individual feels valued and respected for who they are, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Through our RAP, we aim to actively engage all students, staff, and the broader community in learning about and understanding the rich cultural heritages and perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. By fostering empathy, respect, and a shared commitment to reconciliation, Rossbourne School is playing a vital role in building a more harmonious and inclusive society for present and future generations. Reconciliation is about the rightful recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the Land and respecting and acknowledging their contributions to Australian society. It involves truth-telling and building mutually respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and all other Australians. Achieving reconciliation requires raising awareness and knowledge about First Nations histories and cultures and evolving perspectives At Rossbourne we: • Commit to being a community which respects the human rights of all people, but also respects and promotes the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the First Peoples of the Land • Respectfully incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives throughout the curriculum, the built environment, in pedagogical practices, professional development, student experiences and community engagement. • Recognise past injustices and ongoing inequality through truth-telling and commit to working towards a shared future that values and honours First Nations students and families within the school community. • Embrace the cultures, histories, language, spirituality and connections to Country of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as a means of respecting and acknowledging First Nations students and families.
• Acknowledge the special relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and the Land.
