VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Canterbury South Public School, our vision for reconciliation is to create a community that honours and respects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, and cultures. We are committed to building meaningful relationships with our local First Nations community and taking active steps toward positive change. This commitment extends beyond the school gates, shaping our students, staff, and families to be lifelong advocates for reconciliation across the wider Australian community. We acknowledge Australias true histories, the impacts of colonisation, and express our deep sorrow for the ongoing injustices experienced by the First Peoples of this land. These enduring impacts affirm the need for reconciliation. For more than a thousand generations, Aboriginal people have lived along the Cooks River. Our vision includes respectfully embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives across all areas of learning, ensuring that students gain knowledge, understanding, and respect for Country and culture. We aim to inspire our teachers with the passion and shared responsibility of this vision, creating a school community where reconciliation is lived every day. Together, we will honour the unique and continuing connection that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples hold with Bediagal Country, and ensure this respect is central to our future.
