Our vision begins by paying our respects to all Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander people who work, study and visit our learning community and recognise that their living cultures and heritage continues to shape the identity of all Australians. Christian Brother's' High School, Lewisham’s vision for reconciliation is to celebrate our journey towards true reconciliation as a united community and share responsibility for reconciliation. We are committed to deeply connecting with and learning about the cultures, languages, practices and stories of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander students and their families. We are committed to becoming a model for reconciliation in Edmund Rice Education Australia and consider our community to become a flagship for initiatives and attempts to create a culture of healing, respect and a lived reality of harmony, justice and peace. The school's main campus operates on Land that belongs to the Gadigal and Wangal peoples of the greater Eora Nation with an Outdoor Education Centre located at Wamberal on Darkinjung Country. We recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and South Sea Islander people were forcibly removed from these places to build these facilities and acknowledge the negative impact this continues to have on languages, customs, rituals and their communities. Through respectful truth telling processes, we recognise the impact of past histories still have upon Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and South Sea Islander peoples to this day. Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and South Sea Islander peoples often walk in two worlds and their cultures are a gift, connected to Country, and benefiting all members of the community. We place importance on the collaboration of non–Indigenous people in the process of reconciliation as they adopt inclusive practices that ensure Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander people have a meaningful role to play in decision-making.
