VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Little Lane Glen Iris, reconciliation means building genuine, respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians. It is about acknowledging the truth of our shared history and taking active, ongoing steps to ensure equity, justice, and cultural understanding are central to our learning community.

A reconciled Australia looks like a place where every child, family, and educator feels seen, valued, and empowered to share their story. It feels like trust, healing and hope, where children grow up with pride in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures as a vital part of our national identity.

As we experience growth on our reconciliation journey, we are learning how to respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ perspectives into our program. We are reflecting on our practices and learnings as we support children’s curiosity and family engagement while deepening our relationships with local First Nations peoples, listening and acting with integrity.

We will continue to engage respectfully and collaboratively with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, providing more opportunities for children and families to hear First Nations voices, stories and languages, and ensure these are respectfully  embedded into everyday practice, not just on special occasions. We are committed to engaging with children, families, educators, Elders and the wider community because reconciliation must be woven into every relationship we build.

As early childhood educators, we understand the importance of beginning this work in the early years. Our sphere of influence includes not just the children in our care, but their families, our teaching team and the broader community we are part of. Together, we walk this path of reconciliation, always learning and always growing.
