Papilio Schofields believes in providing children with rich, meaningful, and genuine opportunities to better understand the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, their communities, traditions and their original connection to the Bidjigal lands in which our service resides. We believe reconciliation includes acknowledging the Traditional Dharug Owners of the Land. Learning about Dharug people and culture includes the Land, family, lore, language, and celebration, and creating an understanding of cultural identity and connecting through a feeling of belongingness. Our aim is to find meaningful ways to walk together with this nations First Peoples, by building knowledge, acceptance and understanding that is fostered through reciprocal relationships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and ongoing learning and professional development. Our vision is to create an environment that is promotes justice, non-bias and equity for all, by inspiring knowledge and understanding of First Nations histories, and we encourage our Papilio Schofields community; staff, families, children and visitors alike, to embrace reconciliation through embedded practice that values and recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and heritage as a proud part of our shared identity. We aim to strengthen the children, family, educators, and communities knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders rights and culture, by building equitable partnerships with the Elders in the local community.
