At Oakwood Primary School, our vision for reconciliation is to create an inclusive, culturally safe learning environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are treated equitably and with respect; fostering genuine partnerships and that staff, children, families and the wider community gain a deeper understanding of First Nations peoples, histories and perspectives. We recognise that truth-telling and listening are essential for building enduring and mutually engaging relationships with the local Bindjareb Noongar people. We will educate ourselves and school community by learning about the historical and ongoing impacts of colonisation, discrimination, racism, and exclusion to better understand the injustices faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. We acknowledge the strength, resilience, and contributions of the First Nations people of Australia. Through shared knowledge and resources, we will promote two-way learning and meaningful partnerships that drive positive change and enhance equity, respect and inclusiveness. Our Reconciliation Action Plan embed these principles into every aspect of school life, making opportunities to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures accessible to all.
