At St John’s Auburn, our vision for reconciliation begins by acknowledging the Wangal people of the Eora Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which we play, work and learn. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of Lands across Australia, and we are committed to respectfully embedding opportunities, within our daily routines, for children to further their learning about, understanding of, and respect for, First Nations peoples.
Our vision for reconciliation aligns with our wider service philosophy, which explores St John's we are committed to providing an environment for children that encourages a sense of identity, wellbeing, conï¬dence, connection and opportunities to contribute to the world around them. As such, we are committed to ensuring our Centre maintains genuine regard for every child, their language, culture, and achievements. We will ensure that the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples cultures is acknowledged and respectfully reflected in our programs and daily experiences.
Our RAP will guide us in developing meaningful and respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, to support appropriate opportunities for connecting with First Nations cultures, languages, beliefs and perspectives and ensure children feel a sense of belonging whilst in our care. We commit to ensuring that connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities are maintained and respected at all times, and, through our curriculum, are committed to strengthening children’s learning about First Nations histories and contemporary realities.
