VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Only About Children Newport is committed to reconciliation. Through this vision for reconciliation, we continue to influence and educate current and future generations about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their cultures, and perspectives.  We seek to listen first, ensuring our actions are guided by local voices and knowledge rather than imposed initiatives.

Our vision is a future of mutually respectful and genuine two-way relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous people within our community. We visualise a fair, inclusive, impartial, and culturally respectful community that stands for First Nations peoples' recognition, participation, equity, and acknowledgment as essential to Australias national identity.

We foster decolonisation of our educational program by respectfully embedding First Nations peoples perspectives and ways of knowing, being, and doing in our curriculum and daily practice across all age groups. We continue to provide opportunities for all staff to develop their cultural awareness and responsiveness through professional learning and partnerships with local Elders, First Nations leaders, and community members.

Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) serves as a living document that continually guides our progress and critical reflection. It shapes our goals, informs our curriculum, and holds us accountable for embedding reconciliation in meaningful and sustainable ways. Through our RAP, we commit to regular reflection and review, acknowledging that reconciliation is an ongoing journey of growth, understanding, and connection.
