For Milestones Edgewater, reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the broader community is about education. Through education and understanding, our educators and all members of our early learning service community will fully understand their role in reconciliation, whilst empowering them to trust in their abilities to do so.
Milestones Edgewater's vision for reconciliation begins with our active acknowledgement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of Lands across Australia, and our recognition of the cultural and spiritual connections that continue to nurture these Lands, with a respect that is as vital today as in any times past.
Our commitment to this journey reflects our values, our respect for the rights of children, and our desire for all Australians to have the natural expectation of a positive and reconciled future between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and all Australians. Whilst we are all beginning to understand the gravity and intergenerational impacts of our shared histories, this may not have been mentioned in our own schooling, so our own education is ongoing. We undertake to continue to unlearn and learn, alongside the children, openly, honestly and with integrity.
We are determined to include truth-telling and diverse perspectives, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, as we interact daily with the newest generations of young learners. We will at all times be mindful of the children in our care and the families in our community, wherever they may be from, as we truthfully tell the stories of our nation's past and begin to write a new story about Australia.
