Reconciliation at Vickers Road Community Childcare Centre embraces Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians, and embodies equity, equality, acceptance, and acknowledgement of our shared histories. As a centre, our vision is to work respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and local Elders, organisations, and communities to embrace and teach Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples perspectives and cultures within our centre and community.Â
We strive to create a centre where everyone is treated and celebrated equally, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures are recognised, valued, and celebrated and respected. We acknowledge, and are open to learn from, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and recognise their continuing knowledge and understanding of the impact of our shared histories. Â We are committed to teaching children how reconciliation is about treating everyone with equality, thus meaning a safer, more respectful, and equitable Australia for everyone, especially First Nations Peoples. Â Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds, and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoplesÂ
Our vision for a reconciled Australia is for all Australians to recognise and honour First Nation Peoples and their cultures and histories. We aspire for all people to be treated equally and feel valued, respected, safe, and acknowledged. We are committed to being a place where our true histories are taught, and atrocities are acknowledged and promote a country where everyone has the same opportunities.Â
