VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Reconciliation is about building and sustaining respectful relationships, acceptance and understanding between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.    At Goodstart Currumbin Waters, we are committed to fostering children's and educator's understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples cultures and histories, and to challenge negative conscious and unconscious biases that impact on children's future attitudes towards cultural diversity. We believe all educators have the potential to make a significant and positive difference in national reconciliation.   Acceptance, justice, equality and equity are fundamental for an approach to early childhood education that understands and equips children to be active and contributing citizens now and in the future. Reconciliation is one of the most important matters facing the Australian community. Exploring how children, as valued community members, can be part of this work is one of the most significant contributions we as educators can make to our collective future. Fostering respectful, reciprocal relationships with our local First Nations community on the Gold Coast, and particularly the Yugambeh community, we can respectfully teach children about the true history of the Land in which they play and learn.
