VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Here at Westernport Child Care Centre and Kindergarten, Koo Wee Rup, we continue to work towards our vision for reconciliation. To us, reconciliation means strengthening the relationship between our early learning service and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for the benefit of all staff, children, families and greater community. We see reconciliation as actively respecting the rights of all Australians to equal and equitable opportunities, positive change and bright futures. Reconciliation, to us, is a journey, not something that will happen overnight. We will continue to advocate for equality, equity, historical acceptance, healing and unity as we make forward steps in our journey. This journey must include us, as a staffing body, working hard on developing knowledge, respectfully engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, and making further connections in our communities.

At its heart, reconciliation is about coming together. We are committed to furthering relationships with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and to learning, through these connections, how to respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into our practices and our early childhood teachings to create a shared place that ensures equal and equitable opportunities for all people.
