At Capel Sounds, reconciliation is the ongoing commitment to build and strengthen relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non- Indigenous Australians. We recognise that to walk this path, we must acknowledge and understand the devastating effects of colonisation on First Nations people and that this is ongoing. Through respectful and authentic action, it is our hope to provide positive outcomes and opportunities for all children and contribute to the unity and harmony of our community.
As an organisation we prioritise this by engaging in professional development to understand the histories, cultures and perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We will support staff, regardless of where they are on their journey, to deepen their understanding and knowledge. We will encourage learning about language, stories and invite reflection of current issues effecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Reconciliation means ensuring that we provide culturally safe spaces, weaving First Nations perspectives through our educational programs and environment. It is respectful engagement with First Nations community, learning from them and providing allyship and support. It is sharing this respect and learning with our families and community, inviting them to be part of our reconciliation journey.
