The educators of Headstart Ocean Grove stand united with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in moving Australia forward towards reconciliation. Our vision for reconciliation is to develop an environment that respectfully encompasses the true histories of Australia, the present impacts of these on First Nations peoples and the future aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We see moving forward in reconciliation as our number one priority. We are moving forward through the development of knowledge of our educators and through learning with and from of local Elders and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consultancy services. We recognise and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures and their unique place in Victoria’s past, present and future. Learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures, histories and perspectives and valuing the place of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is essential to understanding and implementing the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework, based on the principles of equity and human rights, to drive our reconciliation journey.
