Our vision for reconciliation at Sparrow Early Learning Carrum Downs is to create a place of equity, equality, dignity and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and all people. Developed with our team of educators our actions will include cultural awareness training for all staff, and better policies to engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and all children to develop an understanding and awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ histories, cultures and contributions. Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) will support the teams in our services’ commitment to become an service where respectful relationships are fostered between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and children and non-Indigenous families and children. We are committed to building a service where all children, staff, families and the wider community understand and appreciate the shared histories and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout Australia. Through our RAP we will promote the inclusion of appropriate and relevant resources that will improve cross cultural awareness and understanding to strengthen engagement with all children, families and community members in all our early learning programs using the five dimensions of reconciliation: race relations, equality and equity, institutional integrity, unity, and historical acceptance.
