At Brighton Beach ELC, we acknowledge and recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the First Peoples of Australia. We embed reconciliation through discussions and an age appropriate Acknowledgement of Country daily. We ensure to respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into our program through a variety of activities, including using authentic resources and engaging with elders in our community.  Reconciliation for us means recognising the historical – and often intergenerational – injustices and inequities experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples since colonisation, but also acknowledging the  strengths and resilience shown by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and communities in the face of discrimination, and to celebrate the continued significance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contributions in shaping a shared sense of national unity and identity.
