At Goodstart Early Learning Centre Wantirna South - Cathies Lane, we aspire to be active contributors towards reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community. We strive to provide a Service that is inclusive and welcoming to all, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families, and community members, and where we promote and provide equal and equitable opportunities for all.
We believe this can be achieved through developing strong relationships within the First Nations community and learning about the histories and knowledges of the Wurundjeri and Bunurong peoples. As well as teaching children about the importance of showing compassion for others, we will continue discovering and building on our centre communities’ cultural awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This relationship requires all educators, children, and families to develop a deeper understanding and respect for the cultures, knowledges, and the values of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. We recognise our responsibility to work towards reconciliation and the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) outlines our dedication to reconciliation by working towards developing a culturally aware Service that celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures, and all cultures.
