VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Our vision for reconciliation is to acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the Lands on which we teach and learn. We strive to build an ongoing and respectful connection with the Boonwurrung community of the Kulin Nation. We are committed to creating an inclusive and culturally safe place for First Nations peoples demonstrating respect for their cultures and histories as part of our reconciliation journey.     At MCFC, we have a responsibility to ensure that the youngest community members of Australia grow up with an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Lands, knowledges, cultures, achievements,  and histories. We believe that reconciliation does not happen for just one week out of the year, but that it is a lifelong commitment and pursuit.    We envision a learning community where local Elders and Traditional Owners are central to sharing local histories and cultures with children; where educators are actively engaged in meeting the AITSL Standards (1.4 and 2.4) and the ACECQA National Quality Standard; and where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are meaningfully and regularly discussed in the school community.     We encourage children to value  cultures, languages and the right to be heard of First Nations peoples and all people within a learning environment where the young citizens of Australia develop their sense of understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, histories, languages and Land.
