Wattletree Early Childhood Centre

Our vision for Reconciliation is to nurture a connected and passionate community, where all members feel acknowledged, heard and respected. We honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Custodians of the land and are committed to recognising and embedding their histories, knowledge, cultures and perspectives within our daily practices and educational experiences. We aim to thoughtfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives within our educational program across all age groups through inclusive and culturally meaningful and appropriate learning experiences, as well as engaging with local community members as cultural experts.    

At Wattletree, we focus on caring for country. We believe that through connection to the land, children will develop a sense of respect and belonging, which opens up opportunities for meaningful conversations about culture, history and community.    

Through our practices we strive to create an environment where all children, families and educators feel a strong sense of belonging and respect, fostered through inclusive and culturally responsive relationships and practices.    

We acknowledge the colonial wrongs of the past and their ongoing impacts, and we are committed to learning from them as we work towards justice and understanding. Through meaningful relationships and ongoing educator learning, we aim to deepen our own understanding by working closely with the local Wurundjeri community to strengthen our knowledge as we educate and support children.    

We envision a reconciled Australia as a united Australia, one that promotes positive relationships, celebrates cultural diversity, acknowledges the wrongs of the past and actively works together to move forward.
