Altona Gate Sessional Kindergarten and One Tree Community Services vision for reconciliation is to promote a cultural safe place where we acknowledge the educational foundation of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the history and culture of Australia. We will respectfully embed Australian's First Nations Peoples' perspectives throughout our program and the environment. We recognise that children’s connection to their community is essential to their sense of belonging, and that we as early childhood educators play a key role in cultivating positive relationships within the community. We will visibly respect and acknowledge the unique connection that Aboriginal people have to the land on which our kindergarten is situated and to build genuine, respectful relationships with all children and families who attend our service. We acknowledge that staff, children and the families are on a learning journey that will grow and assist in reconciliation. These strong foundations of learning will be developed through ongoing respectful relationship, built on mutual trust and respect with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders, families and communities. We will provide opportunities to collectively build our understanding for a reconciled future based on strong relationships; we will consult with, work alongside and listen to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders, families and communities. This will in turn assist to develop a high-quality early childhood education and equal opportunity for all Australians.
