At Bright Sparks Early Learning, we are committed to reconciliation. We acknowledge and honour the cultures, contributions, and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and are committed to ensuring that teaching and learning are inclusive of and enriched by these perspectives. We would like all children, educators and families to have a deeper understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures and perspectives and feel that this needs to begin from an early age. We achieve this by encouraging all educators to reflect on their own knowledge and take action to gain more understanding.
Our vision is for a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are fully recognised as the First Peoples of Australia, where all Australians honour Elders past, present and future, and value the wisdom and knowledge they carry. We strive for an Australia that embraces unity between non-Indigenous Australians and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and a national culture that represents equality and equity, historical acceptance of our shared histories, and the removal of negative race relations. We are committed to ensuring families feel a strong sense of belonging and that their own views are respected. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives will be respectfully embedded into all aspects of our program. Learning about the diverse histories and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples supports children in developing respect for diversity and an understanding of cultural differences. Our educators are committed to equity and equality and recognise that all children have the right to participate in inclusive early childhood settings. Bright Sparks Early Learning will assist in fostering opportunities for a high level of understanding of the culture, traditions, and language of the Dharawal people, for the children, families, educators of our early learning centre, and the local community of Appin.
