VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Stepping Stones Early Learning Centre, Bexley recognises and understands that reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians is the responsibility of all Australians. We are committed to building relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and all children, families, staff and community members.   

Through our pedagogical practices we will acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, perspectives and their diverse cultures and work towards strengthening the relationships and connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our local community.  

Our vision is to foster a strong understanding of what contributes to shaping attitudes, perceptions and behaviour and strive to strengthen the cultural responsiveness of the educators, children and families at our service. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Land we share, honour and respect their continuing connections to Country, and value their guidance in our professional practice. We are committed to embracing and embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in our everyday experience through learning about our shared histories.   

The main objectives of our Reconciliation Action Plan are based on the core principles of community and collaboration. Through our RAP we aim to identify and implement practical strategies that provide opportunities for children, families and educators to build and cultivate deeper partnerships and engagement with Aboriginal and Torres communities, organisations, families and individuals.   

Our RAP identifies existing and future meaningful and achievable actions that will support our service in embedding a reconciliation perspective of cultural responsiveness, sensitivity and respect. As a service, we commit to completing the actions in this plan over the next 12 months to build our knowledge, foster a foundation of learning, and provide a basis for increased commitment in the future.
