Urrbrae Agricultural High School is committed to taking practical actions to strengthen our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.      

As part of our reconciliation journey, we hope to further deepen our understanding of the Land our school is on and its natural resources, as well as learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ connections to Country. Reconciliation to us means fostering awareness, acknowledgement, and respect for the Traditional Custodians of the Lands across Australia. UAHS vision is to embed a deeper level of cultural awareness and responsiveness in our staff and students, aiming to shape our educative practices to ensure our students finish school as culturally responsive, engaged, and active leaders in our journey towards reconciliation. Ensuring that we respond with excellence and equity with the culturally responsive framework around Doing, Being and Knowing.  Education, our most powerful tool in reconciling our histories, creates a positive place for change.  

We will build relationships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, fostering an accepting and open-minded environment, to empower our students to embrace their individual cultural heritage and identities. We acknowledge First Nations Elders and Knowledge Keepers and their role in nurturing and maintaining culture and community. Urrbrae Agricultural High School values the diversity, strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and we value the enduring understanding and connection that they have with country.  

We respectfully reflect this through the incorporation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in our policies, learning plans and curriculum. We will continue to use our unique programs to help our community gain a developed understanding of First Nations People’s relationships with country, place and culture.
