Brighton Secondary School envisions a future where reconciliation is not just a word, but a guiding principle. Reconciliation will be deeply ingrained in our community, fostering a genuine understanding and appreciation of Kaurna People’s culture, history, and connections to the Land.
As a school, we are committed to acknowledging and honouring the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which Brighton Secondary School stands – the Kaurna People – and all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples throughout Australia. We thank Kaurna People for allowing us to use Kaurna Language in our house names, Tarnta, Wilya, Tantutiti, Mirnu, Yarlu and Karrkala, as we work together to deepen our community’s understanding of Kaurna people, culture and history.
We are committed to building and maintaining a culturally responsive school environment where inclusivity and a sense of belonging supports First Nations community members, and all community members, to thrive. Through culturally responsive education, initiatives, and events, we will ensure that Kaurna voices and First Peoples' voices are respectfully embedded in our curriculum, school activities, and everyday practices.
In embracing this vision for reconciliation, Brighton Secondary School continues to take significant steps in empowering all young people, staff and families to become advocates for reconciliation by providing them with the knowledge and skills needed to create positive change, in the two-way journey of reconciliation
