VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Reconciliation is about the rightful recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the Land and respecting and valuing their contributions to Australian society. It involves truth-telling and building mutually respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and all other Australians. Striving towards reconciliation requires raising the awareness and knowledge about First Nations peoles histories and cultures and evolving perspectives.  Jesus lived the compassion of God in his love for all. We commit ourselves to reconciliation in a spirit of mercy, respect and justice.  At our school we:  Commit to being a community which not only respects the human rights of all people, but also respects and promotes the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the First Peoples of the Land   Respectfully incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples perspectives throughout the curriculum, the built environment, in pedagogical practices, professional development, student experiences and community engagement.  

Recognise past injustices and ongoing inequality and inequity through truth-telling and commit to working towards a shared future that values and honours First Nations students and families within the school community.  

Deepen our understanding of the diverse  culture, histories, language, spirituality and connections to Country of First Nations students and families.  

Acknowledge the special relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and the Land.  

Focus on being a community committed to justice and healing by responding to the invitation contained in the Uluru Statement from the Heart to listen to the voice of Australia's First Peoples in the spirit of Mercy.  

Teach and learn in ways that are culturally safe and supportive.
