VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Yarraville Special Developmental School OSHC, our vision for reconciliation is rooted in respect, understanding, and collaboration with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where every child, family, and community member feels valued, heard, and empowered, especially the First Peoples of Australia.

We acknowledge and respect the rich cultural heritage and deep connections to Land, language, and traditions of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which our school stands. We strive to build meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, incorporating their perspectives into our programs and daily practices.

Through education, dialogue, and the celebration of diverse cultures, we aim to inspire a sense of belonging and pride in every child, while actively working towards healing and understanding of the impacts of colonisation towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Our commitment to reconciliation is reflected in the way we engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, encouraging respect for cultural diversity, and fostering empathy for all.

We believe that true reconciliation is a journey of learning, connection, and action, and we are dedicated to walking this path with humility, integrity, and a deep respect for the past, present, and future of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
