Our vision is for reconciliation to be an interwoven part of the cultural fabric at Ambrose Early Learning Good Shepherd. Reconciliation within our centre means that feelings of harmony and acceptance lead our vision, and the service acknowledges all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who enter our service. We value our learning community and embrace all children, families, staff and the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community as we learn about our shared history. We look towards a future where all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are respected and acknowledged for their unique, rich culture and histories.
A reconciled Australia will be a harmonious place, where each person feels a deep sense of belonging. First Nations people will be respected and valued for their uniqueness and the amazing cultural knowledge that they hold and bring with them. The First Custodians of this Country have suffered many injustices and inequalities, and it is now time to create a calm and harmonious country, as we move forward in rebuilding the relationships.
Ambrose Early Learning Good Shepherd understands that building respectful relationships with the First Nations community will take time. We understand that we need to prove the goodness of our intentions, to develop deep and meaningful relationships with Elders in the community and organisations. We need to critically reflect on the way we embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage alongside the injustices and inequalities they have continued to experience since colonisation.
In our role as early childhood educators, we have many opportunities to change the way we view reconciliation. We have the ability and opportunity to meaningfully engage with the children in our care, families who access our service, and the broader community, expanding our blanket of influence and welcoming all with open arms.
