To us, reconciliation in education means creating learning environments where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and perspectives are recognised, respected, and integrated in everyday practice. It is about fostering respect, engaging in truth-telling, and deepening understanding to build stronger and more inclusive communities.
At Greenfield Early Learning Center, reconciliation is an active and ongoing journey. It means ensuring that every child grows up with a deep respect for the First Peoples of this Land, and that staff continuously engage in learning and reflection to create an environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families feel a true sense of belonging.
We create learning environments that acknowledge and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ histories, languages, and traditions. We recognise the wisdoms of First Peoples’ ways of teaching and caring for children.
We are dedicated to respectfully integrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into our curriculum, daily practices, and community events. Through storytelling, language, music, art, and land-based learning, we ensure children develop a respectful appreciation of First Nations cultures.
We foster a care and educational environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families feel a deep sense of belonging. By incorporating First Nations peoples’ perspectives into our curriculum, celebrations, and daily routines, we ensure every child sees themselves represented in our center.
We recognise that early childhood is a critical time for shaping values, attitudes, and understanding. By embedding reconciliation in our learning community, we are taking meaningful steps toward fostering current and future generations who appreciate the cultures of and uphold the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
