Our vision for reconciliation is to create an environment that is welcoming, inclusive, and safe for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We are committed to advocating for diversity and acceptance by teaching children that we are ‘one and equal’, no matter our past, race, background, or religion. We acknowledge the diversity of all Mobs and understand that one shoe doesn’t fit all—every Mob has its own unique culture, language, and traditions.
We recognise the impact past intergenerational trauma has on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the impact it still has on generations today. We are committed to developing a more equitable, inclusive, and understanding community through developing our RAP and working towards healing together.
Together we will:
Learn - We will provide ongoing opportunities for educators to learn how to be culturally responsive through professional development and training, and build meaningful, respectful and reciprocal relationships with the local Awabakal people. We will strive to promote cultural awareness and understanding among children by respectfully embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’, histories and perspectives into our daily program.
Un-Learn – We pledge to un-learn and denounce the stereotypes, misconceptions and bias that have clouded our past understandings and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and histories. By doing this, we acknowledge the injustices that have taken place and are committed to sharing the truths moving forward.
Re-Learn – We pledge to re-learn the true history of Australia and our First Nations Peoples. We will re-learn the truths by actively listening to the stories of the past as told by First Nations peoples. We will endeavour to share informed, age-appropriate understandings of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and histories with our children, to ensure our next generation are empowered to continue to advocate for diversity and equality for all.
