VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Harmony Early Education Bangalow, our vision for a reconciled Australia is a place where First Nations Peoples and other Australians live in unity, free from prejudice and judgement.   We believe that everyone has the right to feel a strong sense of safety and belonging within the community. We want to build a learning environment that values and actively practices equality, equity, collaboration, understanding and open, honest dialogue. We believe that for this to happen, reconciliation must be a daily practice that lives within every person. Our journey towards reconciliation is driven by core values such as vulnerability, curiosity, and reciprocity. We understand our responsibility to be respectful, intentional and culturally aware in doing so when learning about and embedding First Nations perspectives. We will do this by building respectful and collaborative relationships with local First Nations Peoples, and centering their voices, perspectives and practices. We commit to taking part in professional learning to deepen our knowledge of First Nations peoples and cultures into our early childhood education.   We commit to learning about the Country we live, work and play on, Bundjalung Land, and building this knowledge into our everyday learning and practice. We commit to improving the quality of conversation between educators and children about First Nations peoples cultures, perspectives and ways of being, by reflecting on the terminology and resources we use. We commit to taking a proactive, professional and intentional approach in involving our families and educators as well as our children and wider community in our journey towards reconciliation.  We believe that reconciliation is an important part of every childs learning in Australia, and we are committed to embedding it into our daily practice and program, as we support children towards a strong sense of belonging, being and becoming at Harmony Early Education Bangalow. May our practice reflect truth, care, and deep reverence for the stories, culture and deep knowledge that came long before us, and a commitment to reconciliation that honours the rich languages, cultures and perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia.
