VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Our vision for reconciliation is an Australia where unity between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and non-Indigenous Australians is embraced with genuine understanding and respect. We imagine a nation that celebrates the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures, fosters equality, and champions equity for all. Through reconciliation, we are committed to moving forward together - honoring the past, offering heartfelt apologies, and engaging in truth-telling. We affirm the right of First Nations Peoples to self-determination, ensuring their Lands, cultures, and affairs are respected, now and into the future.

What This Means for Hallett Cove R-12 OSHC

As a learning community, we are committed to learning from and honouring the wisdom of the oldest living culture, seeking to understand Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ perspectives. We recognise the injustices of the past and are committed to walking together in a spirit of learning, respect, and unity.

For us, this means ensuring equal and equitable opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and families to thrive. We understand our responsibility to uphold and model the values of reconciliation. At Hallett Cove OSHC, we view our RAP as a dynamic, evolving document that will continue to grow and adapt alongside our team’s learning and development.

We will support this vision by:

•Celebrating and acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures,  •Providing culturally safe and inclusive spaces,  •Engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities,  •Educating and raising awareness for truth-telling and shared histories,  •Involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in decision-making,  •Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families,  •And ensuring ongoing cultural learning for staff and students.
