Lilliput Village Montessori’s vision for reconciliation includes listening to, celebrating the diversity of, and striving for social justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We are committed to building relationships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and listening to their voices to inform meaningful decisions within the service.
Within our learning program in the classroom, we highlight the cultural diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We are committed to an intentional and thoughtful anti-bias curriculum that aims for children to develop an appreciation of diversity, respect, understanding of histories, and a personal commitment to a positive, reconciled future for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We are committed to fostering equal and equitable education opportunities and outcomes.
We strive to educate the current and next generations about the strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures, their many and varied contributions to a shared sense of national unity. We will respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait perspectives in our curriculum so students see their cultures and identities represented.
We hold an ongoing commitment to develop, implement and review our Reconciliation Action Plan to remain accountable over time. We will regularly reflect on our aims and outcomes and ensure we are walking the walk and continuously improving. This aligns with our underlying philosophy in terms of the Montessori method’s core values of viewing education as a pathway to peace. We recognise that our educators have responsibilities to contribute meaningfully to Reconciliation through their own attitudes and actions as well as through empowering children to understand their role in tending to the ongoing journey of Reconciliation.
