VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At YMCA Pakenham, our vision for reconciliation continues to foster inclusivity and cultural respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to ensure equality and equity. We continue to respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples perspectives into our practices and curriculum and deepen our knowledge and sharing learnings within the YMCA community.    Our aspiration is to deepen childrens, educators and families, understandings of the First Peoples of Australia as the Traditional Custodians and the importance of their continued spiritual connections to the lands, waterways, plants and animals. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and ways of being, striving to empower children, educators, and families to be advocates for unity,  respect and reconciliation between First Nations peoples and non-Indigenous people. We recognise the opportunities for learning throughout our curriculum and environments at YMCA Pakenham and make a commitment to promote inter-cultural understandings in a meaningful manner.    This RAP demonstrates our commitment to deepening the knowledge and pedagogical practices of educators to implement inclusive teaching strategies for First Nations children and families. We continue to engage with local Aboriginal communities, building mutual respect through active recognition of Bunurong Peoples culture and ways of being. We recognise the role the YMCA plays in promoting reconciliation and we strive to create an environment that is culturally safe and fosters a sense of belonging for all.
