At Memorial Park Community Kindergarten our vision for reconciliation begins with the acknowledgement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the First Peoples of Australia. We commit to connect and build sustainable relationships with the strong and resilient Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities based on mutual trust so we can honour the histories, cultures and contributions of First Nations’ peoples. As an early education and care provider Memorial Park staff and management committee appreciate the value and importance of education for First Nations children and all children and we are committed to our role in ensuring respectful education of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ histories and cultures for all children. We believe that if children are immersed in learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures from a young age it will lead to a more harmonious, respectful and reconciled Australia – one where everyone has equal and equitable opportunity and access. At Memorial Park Community Kindergarten, we seek out professional development opportunities to deepen our understanding and ensure that we have a culturally responsive workforce that will deliver the best outcomes for not only First Nations’ peoples but all families who access our centre, demonstrating and teaching respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ histories, cultures and contributions. We aim to create culturally safe learning environments that are welcoming and inclusive, respectfully embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ perspectives into everyday experiences as well as days of national significance. Every day we strive to extend and promote recognition, understanding and mutual respect for all Australian people and their histories, cultures and perspectives. We aspire to have trusting and authentic connections with the local First Nations Community in order to contribute to a wider united Australia and bring about reconciliation, healing, justice and peace for all Australian peoples.
