VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Mother Duck Gaythorne we acknowledge the importance of understanding and learning the history, knowledge and traditions of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We gather on Turrbal Land each day as we work, learn and play, and it is our duty to care for this Land and each other as we acknowledge and pay our respect to the Traditional Custodians.  In our continuing journey to reconciliation, we acknowledge the impacts that colonization had on family members, cultural identity, languages, Lands and waters of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This shared history continues to have a negative impact on  current and future generations of First Nations people within across Australia.  The purpose of reconciliation is to change and grow as a community through reflecting on our past and moving forward collaboratively to ensure equality for all people. Reconciliation is not a momentary occurrence. It is a continuous process of strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous Australians through acknowledging past injustices, addressing ongoing inequalities, and building respect and opportunities for all.  We must ensure that our environments are authentic and our approach is intentional and respectful as we endeavour to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures into our pedagogy. Our curriculum and teaching practices are inspired by how we perceive children to be worthy and able. We view children as capable individuals who can make their own significant contributions towards reconciliation. Our sense of social responsibility drives educators, children, families, and our community to engage in this important work. We are making a commitment to continually reflect on our past and take necessary and important steps as we move forward and strive to quell any injustices in our community. We acknowledge that this was, and always will be, Aboriginal Land.
