OAK on South's vision for reconciliation is an Australia where the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples is based on equality, equity, dignity and respect. We aspire to see our national soul healed and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures to be fully and actively valued by all Australians. We wish for broken relationships to be restored and for social inequalities to be eradicated. OAK on South is launching our RAP with the vision for an equitable and equal Australia where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ 60,000+ year-old cultures and continuing connections to Country are actively respected, acknowledged and celebrated. The RAP outlines practical actions that will move OAK on South closer to reconciliation, both internally and in our relationships with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and wider community in which we work.
We're aiming to be aspirational and innovative in our actions and are focusing on:
developing and strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples engaging all staff and stakeholders in reconciliation
developing initiatives that teach all children to be culturally aware and immersed in reconciliation.
Our RAP will help to deepen our understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures; our shared history; and wellbeing inequalities experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families today, as a result of colonisation. We are committed to improving our practices through this growing understanding, and we want to empower our staff to make an active contribution to reconciliation.
