We acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the Lands on which we work and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty has never been ceded. It always was and always will be, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Land. Â
Sutherland Child Care Centre strives to create an inclusive, trusting, and culturally safe environment that fosters learning and growth for all children. We endeavour to ensure that all children in our care are accepting of diverse cultural backgrounds, including those of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We envision a generation of leaders who are well-educated and respectful of the Traditional Owners of the Land that they inhabit. Â
For Sutherland Child Care Centre, a reconciled Australia feels like a safe and welcoming environment in which people who associate with different identities, movements, and worldviews are accepted; where conscious and unconscious bias has been, or is in the process of being, eradicated. A reconciled Australia looks like an environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and perspectives are seamlessly integrated into everyday learning, where children of all backgrounds play and learn together with mutual respect and understanding, where children, staff and families feel empowered and valued, and where the stories, traditions, and contributions of  Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are integrated and respected as a fundamental part of the communitys identity. Â
Based on our personal reconciliation journey and learnings thus far, our next most powerful steps involve actively continuing to participate in cultural responsiveness training to deepen our understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. Additionally, we will continue to implement strategies to ensure we are better informed of the beliefs and views of the Dharawal people whose Land we occupy.Â
