At Northern Beaches Council Childrens Services, our vision for reconciliation is to acknowledge, honour and celebrate the rich diversity, cultures and true histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples the First Peoples of this land we now call Australia. We recognise the injustices of the past and the ongoing impacts they have on First Nations communities. We are committed to walking together in truth and partnership toward a reconciled and just future for all. Our service embeds cultural responsiveness across all areas of our curriculum, aiming to improve educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, as well as non-First Nations Australians children and educators. Our practices are continually shaped by the shared knowledge, languages, values, pedagogies and histories of First Nations peoples, supporting the development of a curriculum that is culturally safe, rich, empowering and fair. We deeply respect and value the stories, cultures, and living histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as a vital part of our shared national identity. We see children as capable, informed citizens and active participants in the reconciliation journey. Their voices are central to our work, and they help guide our practices in collaboration with families and communities. We recognise the important role we play in shaping current and future generations and the responsibility we hold to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable Australia. Whether we are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples or non-First Nations Australians, we all have a responsibility to listen to, learn from and uphold the wisdom and deep connection that First Nations peoples have with this land. Their shared knowledge is a source of strength and richness that must be acknowledged, respected and valued by all.
