Our vision for reconciliation begins with our acknowledgement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Original Owners and Custodians of Australia. We recognise that First Nations Peoples cultures and heritage shapes our shared identity as Australians. We acknowledge that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples cultures are the oldest, continuous living cultures on the planet.  Working within the Early Childhood sector supporting children to develop a sense of self identity is one of the cornerstones of our curriculum and philosophy. As part of our commitment to reconciliation, we acknowledge the impacts that the loss of family, cultural identity, lands and waters, languages and communities of many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as a result of colonisation has had on First Australians. We also acknowledge the ongoing impacts this has on current and future generations. We acknowledge the importance of educating children about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and heritages, which we can do through respectful engagement with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. We acknowledge that we have a responsibility to reflect upon our own practice and initiate change within our service if reconciliation is to be achieved.  Our vision is to build genuine connections and strong partnerships with the community, especially with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We aim to encourage the people around us, our educators, families and children to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples histories, cultures and traditions, so we can foster and create an environment of shared understanding and respect. We aim to build an inclusive and diverse service where all children, families and educators feel a sense of belonging and respect where they can grow and flourish as an integral part of the community.
