VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Avenues Parkinson respectfully acknowledges the significant contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures have made and continue to make to Australian society. We honour the enduring strength, resilience, and spirit of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the face of both past and ongoing injustices. We recognise them as the worlds oldest continuous cultures, with histories stretching back more than 60,000 years. Our vision is to create a culturally safe and inclusive environment within our centre and broader community, one where all children feel supported to learn, grow, and thrive. We are committed to valuing, respecting, and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, and knowledges. We acknowledge the deep loss, grief, and lasting impacts caused by our shared histories and colonisation. Through continued connection with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and agencies, we are committed to listening, learning, teaching, and growing together. At Avenues Parkinson, we are dedicated to nurturing children's understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live, learn, and play. We will continue to embed this learning by exploring Yuggera Land, its language, art, music, and native foods through activities such as planting and using bush tucker, caring for our environment, and practicing sustainable use of resources. To deepen our understanding and strengthen our practices, we will engage in ongoing professional development and independent research. By doing so, we aim to better support and enrich our childrens learning experiences and appreciation of the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
