At Community Kids McLaren Vale we value and recognise the work and teaching ways of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities around Australia and the local area. Our vision for reconciliation at Community Kids McLaren Vale is for children, families and the wider community to feel culturally safe when in our centre, ensuring they feel seen and represented throughout our programs, acknowledgement, resources and everyday practices. We acknowledge that we, as educators, play an important role in ensuring current and future generations have the knowledge and resources that will lead to Australia becoming a reconciled nation. We aim to work alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to build our knowledge of how we as a learning community can work towards understanding what it means to foster a reconciled Australia. We need to further develop an understanding of, and reflect on, the injustices that continue to impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as we engage in truth-telling and learning about the true histories of Australia.
